Mental Health Resources

Mental health is the combination of our emotional, physical, and social well-being. It helps us be productive at work, maintain our relationships with family and friends, and feel good about ourselves. Taxi drivers are frequently under a lot of stress, which can affect their mental health.

Some of the symptoms of stress may cause changes to your mood, like feeling angry and aggressive. You might have more difficulty thinking and concentrating. Some of the symptoms can also relate to how you feel physically. For example, you may feel more restless or “on-edge” throughout the day, or you might sleep more or less than usual. Other symptoms could be changes in your behavior, like using alcohol or drugs more frequently. Under stressful situations, many people experience these symptoms, as well as others not listed. Fortunately, there are effective treatments for these symptoms.

Below are various facilities that provide support for mental health. There are hotlines that can refer you to clinics for treatment, and there are clinics that provide therapy and counseling. We have separated the clinics by borough. You can find the address of the clinic, their phone number, hours that you can walk into the clinic without an appointment, languages they speak, and notes about insurance. Most of the locations accept a variety of insurances, including Medicaid. If you do not have insurance, most of these locations will ask that you pay an amount you can afford based on your income. We advise that you call the clinics before going to confirm this information, as it might change.
